2008 Shoots: Southwest PA, Cold Turkey 1000, Central OR

Blast'n'Blab Shoot Top

Discussion

Last years SW PA Shoot

Date... NOTE...DATE HAS BEEN SELECTED....APRIL 27!! Likely the last weekend in April. The weather seems to work well for us on this weekend and most hunters are thinking about turkey's, not bench shooting.

Location...Jackson Twp Rod and Gun Club. Range location is along Route 22 about 6-7 miles east of the Route 22 and Route 56 intersection. If you Yahoo Maps Armagh, PA (zip is 15920) you will see the intersection.

If you are heading east bound: After about 5-6 miles from the noted intersection you will start up a significant incline in the roadway and the road will become a three lane (or a five lane...but there will be tree going up and two going down the hill). About half way up the hill, the road will plateau then begin another incline. As you start up the second incline the road will also curve to the left. The range sets on the west bound side of the road but you must proceed passed the range (divided highway) and take the first exit to the right. Loop around the ramp, over the bridge then proceed to go west bound (down the hill) and the range will then be on your right.

If you are heading west bound: The range is about 12 miles from the small town of Ebensburg. There will be a red light on Route 22 with a "Wendy's" and Comfort Inn on the right side and heavy equipment sales on the left side. From this light is when the range is about 12 miles. After a period of maybe 10 miles you will pass through a blinking yellow at the top of a hill, proceed through a dip in the road then across a long flat section. As you begin to drop down the hill you will see an overpass. The range entrance will about a quarter mile passed the overpass on the right side. If you miss the entrance, proceed down the hill to a turn around and follow the dirctions for arriving via eastbound!

Accommodations: I've offered to give a free night stay at a local Comfort Inn to anyone driving a distance for the shoot...reward points have priviledges! This offer is still valid. So please let me know ASAP if you would like to use this offer so I can make arrangements. You can also tent in my yard if that's more your flavor.

Food: Lunch will be provided by my lovely wife. Likely chicken and macaroni salad. I'll also have a case or two of water on hand. If you would like anything else please feel free to bring it along...other than alky or booze! Leave those at home.

Cost: Nothing! This is a fun shoot...and strictly that! We'll be shooting steel plates and water filled jugs from 150yds to 500yds and targets from 25yds to 500yds. If you feel inclined, you can throw something in a kitty pot for the club or to cover food...totally your decision. You are arriving as my guests and are required to pay nothing.

The only concern is that this is a club range and other shooters may be present...but rarely! The past attendees can attest to that! Likely the range (four cement benches) will be ours. A sizeable dirt flat next to the benches for field style shooting is available.

Time: Same as last year..."Official" time is 10AM. I'll likely be there by 8:30 to start setting jugs and freshly painting the steel plates.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post on this thread or PM me. I'll provide my phone number thru PM also if so desired.

If shooting Production & Unlimited you will draw a time for each pistol.
Unlimited (16 lbs) 18" barrel.
Production (7 1/2 lbs) 15" barrel.

Final score size will be determined by the aggregate of your 3 original groups at each range.
Only original round of this group will count for score. No re-entries will count for score.

June 12 You will shoot one group at each distance of 500, 750, & 1,000 yds.
June 13 The same
June 14 The same

Production Class--Only Production guns
Unlimited Class--Unlimited & Production guns allowed

You will shoot in the same order each day as which you have drawn your time.
This is to hopefully even out the climatic conditions. We will not shoot during any rain.

Targets will be: 18" with 3" bull at 500 yds
24" with 3" bull at 750 yds
48" with 6" bull at 1,000 yds

Only shots on or cutting target paper will count for score.
Line Rep. has complete authority!
No guns on line until targets are set.

You will have 5 minutes to set up, when called to line.
Guns must remain unloaded with safety flag inserted in the chamber, until Line Rep commands the start.
Then time will start for shooting your group.
You will have 10 minutes to shoot your group with as many sighters as you chose, to shoot.
ALL SIGHTERS will be shot on swinger targets ONLY.
(This means a 10 minute total for group and for sighter shots)

If more than 5 shots are on your target, your group will be the 5 largest of the group, unless, crossover fire has been confirmed by scoring officials.
If you think you have cross shot onto another target, we will stop shooting and check targets.

Each Target will be numbered, corresponding to the Shooter’s Bench Number.
The Shooter and his Spotter only will be allowed on the line, to set-up the shooters bench.
This year there will be a line marked, so it will be clear where the shooting line is.
Once the command is given to shoot for score, only the shooter will be allowed to handle and adjust the firearm and equipment.
Spotters can only spot for and advise the shooter. No coaching from behind the line permitted. When the command to ground and unload all firearms is given (for whatever reason) by the line commander, the shooter must unload his gun, insert safety flag, and back away at least 2 steps away from his table.
Shooters will remain at their tables, until all shooters have completed shooting, and the Line Rep. has called cease fire.

Safety Rules:
Line Rep. has complete authority.
No loaded guns on grounds, except on shooting benches on the firing line.
No guns on line until targets are set.
Safety flags will be in guns at all times.
Safety flags are only to be pulled out on the shooting tables on firing line, when it is your turn to shoot.
Safety flags will be issued at the drawing, only the flags issued will be acceptable for use at the shoot.
TWO WARNINGS AND YOU WILL BE GONE FROM THE RANGE.
This rule will be enforced for the safety of everyone!

On June 13th, there will be a free Bar-B-Q
*If you are bringing non-shooting family members, please let us know, when you send in your entries to ensure plenty of food for the Bar-B-Q.

We are starting to get enough guys out here on the west coast to have our own day or two of shooting, are any of you guys out here on the left coast interested. we would have to see how many people are interested and then dive into the logistics, personally I know of two ranges that would work. One range is run by Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association in Bend and you have to be a member, we do have one member on the forum. The other range is in Southern Oregon and is a large outdoor facility open to the public and run by the county. Let me know if any of you guys are interested and maybe we can put something together for the summer, I'll be down on my back for a while so I can do some research.
Thanks,
Rod
