TC, The only handgun I have that comes close to your 22 Hornet is a old 22 cal wildcat made by Jim Harvey in the 1950`s called the .224 Kay-Chuck. Its a
22 K-Hornet thats been shortened by .05" so the cartridge can fit into a S&W
k-frame cylinder. My gun is a converted k-frame with a 8 3/8" barrel. With a 35gr V-Max bullet and 8.0grs of 2400 I was able to average 1658 FPS for 6 shots. With 9.0grs of 2400 I clocked 1754 FPS for six rounds. My goal was to top my S&W 22 rim fire mag with a 6" barrel that gave me 1402 FPS with CCI
40gr JHP ammo. It worked... Now as with all good things I need time for long range (100yds) load development.

James, when I showed up at the rifle range I asked if I could shoot the gongs at 100 yards with my pistols. Their answer was, “if you think you can hit it.” I pulled out the 22 Hornet and took a shoot. At first they had thought I missed it, but then you heard the gong. I was drawing quite a crowd with them. One gentleman even asked me how much I wanted for my 22-250!

I think the Hornet is going to be great turtle medicine!

I have a 10 inch .22 hornet/contender.That is one of my favorite guns for varmints,10 grains of 110/296 or 2400 with a 45 gr. softpoint for 2330 f.p.s. gets the job done without a lot of noise/compared to my 22-250 rem model 700 BDL rifle.
