Large mouflon-mix

Description: Recently used my new FA`s 44mag to take a large mouflon. Used a 240gr XTP over a large amount of 296 to make a 50yd shot on this bedded ram.It was a cold and raining day with a thin ice sheet on the hillsides and my gore-tex boots failed. We had hunted in the rain all morning knowing that the mouflon would be bedded down. With good luck we spotted the ram before he spotted us and I was able to slide up over him on a small ridge and make the 50yd shot. The shot entered the left shoulder, took out the heart and lungs and broke the right shoulder on the way out. He never moved.Went back to the lodge and warmed up by the fire.

Great Trophy James. And you took it while it was still bedded down. Nice way to break in you new 44!

I would just as soon hunt in the elements as a nice pretty day. It makes memories.

James,

How much 296 are you using in that load?

Dur, I don`t like to quote really hot handloads, however, let me say that the
296 powder charge for the 240gr XTP I used, is the same as the load you use for your 44mag with the 200gr XTP bullet. All the best, James
PS- the handload info for the FA`s 44mag comes from John Taffin`s article in the FACA journal.
