This bullet shrapneled from the instant it hit flesh leaving a trail until it finally came to rest. It almost looked like it was shot with a scatter gun at close range. LOL All in all, the bullet on the left got less than 12 in of penetration. One could argue that it would still bring down larger game, however, after shooting critters with the 180gr XTP there is absolutely no comparison. I would worry about the construction of the 158 being able to shoot quartering shoots and especially being able to penetrate vital organs after striking bone. You would not believe the difference in the channel wound and mass devastation left by the bullet weighing just 22grains more.

I currently use the older Sierras 140 hollow cavities for deer in the .357-they take the critters down quickly with very good penetration/when I run out I'll probably go with 158's.

Well gents I finely got a chance to weight those bullets. The one on the right that was recovered from a tree after passing threw the coon weighed 121.8 gr. The one on the left that was recovered from the chest cavity after entering the hind quarter weighed 31.6 gr.
Remember they started out at 158 gr.
