.500 Smith and .50 Alaskan

Description: That "little" cartridge on the left is a .500 Smith & Wesson -- looks tiny next to the .50 Alaskan. Not much fun to shoot, though......LOL!

You should use one of these rounds if you are able to make the Handgun Hunt at Goldmine Hunting Preserve this December!

Franchise, it is so hard to control, that even sighting it in is a problem. It's a real horse!

I do have a brake on it -- it's the revolver in my signature photo. It would be nearly impossible to shoot without it!

What booolittt is that in the Big One?

Velocity/ballistics numbers for us? How much does your lil gun weigh empty? Loaded?

Gregg, it's a Cast Performance 525 grain WLN -- same bullet at use in my .500 Linebaugh. The gun weighs about 3.5-lbs empty (it's quite light). That particular load consistently clocks 1,575 fps from my revolver. It's a real bear to control and it actually wacked me in the head once!

I wouldn't chance shooting it with a scope! I calculated that it develops over 100 ft-lbs of recoil energy with that 525 grain load. It will hurt you if you don't treat it with the utmost respect and caution at all times -- and I am not exagerating!

The revolver in my signature photo -- a prototype D-Max frame, with a Bisley grip frame.......built by Jack Huntington.
