VA 08 Buck

Description: I took this buck with my 4 3/4" Freedom Arms 454 from about 40 yards as he was trailing a group of 4 does. What may surprise you is that I was using Winchester's reduced recoil (reduced velocity) rounds. They are equivalent to .44 Magnum or heavy 45 Colt power and wonderfully accurate in my Freedom Arms revolvers. They are loaded with a 250 grain XTP and the product code is X454C3.

Great Job! You were shooting the loaded down 250 XTP Winchesters???

Yes, I was shooting the loaded down Winchesters. Winchester sent me a couple boxes of them to try out and they simply shot so well in my FA guns that I decided to use them this year for whitetails. Part of that issue is that all of my reloading stuff is packed up and in storage so I needed to find a good factory load that wasn't too expensive. They certainly don't blow as big a hole as the 260 Noslers that I usually shoot but as you can see the reduced velocity loads did the job. They are basically equivalent to a full-house .44 Magnum load which is more than capable of killing just about anything.

Nice deer Gary.
The reduced load is probably a little easier on the shooter too?
