I would imagine your results of not finding blood and hair are because of where you hit them,sometimes (shoulder hits)the legs/shoulders cover over the wound when running not letting very much blood hit the ground,I've had this happen 3 times over the years and the high hit,the blood would have to fill the cavity all the way up to the wound before she starts spilling on the ground,I've helped a friend at least 5 times and two of my sons 1 time a piece try to track deer they all hit very high and in every case little and I mean little(maybe a couple drops) blood to track so you have to look for splayed tracks to try to track these critters.
