I'm thinking of getting a Striker barrel in a 6.5mm bore. I would like something that shoot the 120-140gr bullets and the 6.5mm meets that weight range criteria better with higher BC's than the .257" or 7mm.

Thought of the new 6.5x47 Lapua but that makes brass kind of hard to get. That leads me to the .260 Remington...throated for a SMK or A-Max in the 140gr weight range. Not sure that I want to step up to a 6.5-284. Just looking for a nice mid-range (out to 400yds) deer cartridge that will feed from the magazine. I'd likely make the brass from .308 LC Match and neck turn to fit the chamber.

Any thoughts?

I'd been eyeing the 6.5-308 Ack Imp (260 AI) for a couple of years, albeit for my Competitor pistol. Other things took priority and it got forgotten, until recently when I got hold of a Striker. The ballistics are not far from the 6.5-284 and it would allow two in the mag. The only thing I wonder about is feeding from the mag with the straight case and sharp shoulder. Got me thinkin' again :-o

When you do it if you opt for the 130 Berger VLD or the 123 SMK you could throat it a little further out if you choose to use the magazine. The 260 is a great little cartridge. A 6.5WSSM would also be a hoot in a short action.
You might choose a compromise throat for the 123 SMK through the 140 class VLD's if you want to have the option of all the high BC bullets.

Hey, I have a striker in 260. It shoots great with sierra bullets doesnt seem to like bergers.
I shoot 140's and 142's 43.5 grs. H4350 @ 2600fps. I wouldn't think u could get much better than that out of a 6.5-284.

You should look at the 6.5 creedmore over the 6.5-47 better case .
I shoot 1000 yard at williamsport with a 260 rifle same load I get about 2890 with a broughton barrel.
Happy Hunting

2600fps is nice to see with a 140gr class bullet!!

I'm thinking a 16.5 or 17" tapered barrel with a Holland or DE brake would be a nice set up to compliment the .250SAI (100SMK at 2700) and the 7mm-270WSM (162AM @ 2825fps). I need a "tweener" gun and this sounds like the one.
