PsTaN - I have seen little to no rutting activity here but I am very short on bucks so this guy just wandered thru at the wrong time. There are no rubs or scrapes that I have found but I do want to go back and find the licking branch this guy was using and see how much use is there or if he was just starting a scrape.

Shortgun: I committed to the 686. I was also carrying a scoped contender but knew I would opt for it in such an event so I stopped carrying it. I am considering a 6 inch or 8 inch upgrade in the future.

Thanks all, I feel very fortunate.

Nothing I enjoy more then seeing a handgunner cleanly take game with a cartridge (from a four inch barrel no less) that is ill-advised by others.... I love to ask your whitetail if he found your handload "light"..
