James don?t tell Whit, but it was 180xtp?s, H4227 20gr. CCI smRifle, it gives me 1485fps. The gun is a Ruger 10.5 inch gun with a Burris 2-7x on it.
I?ve had good results with the 180xtp on medium game, pronghorn and Texas whitetails.

James, I've been loading for a Ruger 10.5" with an Eotech MRDS getting ready to hunt whitetail this fall. I have 1050 rounds through it so far with most of them over a chrono. XTP, Fury, Swift and various cast 180 gr bullets all shoot 2" or less at 50 yds (no 100 yd yet). IMR4227, 296 and 300MP all produce accurate loads. Best combination of accuracy and velocity has been with 300MP and the Fury bullet. I plan to hunt with a 180 gr Fury JFP @ 1650 fps with 300MP, Rem 7 1/2, new Starline brass. Enjoy your new gun!

James if you decide to go with the Swift bullets, (in the 180gr) then I do hope you can use a powder that will get the most velocity with of course the best accuracy. Reason: The Swifts need that velocity to really open up well.
For practice I used to use the 180gr Cast performance and 180XTPs those can be loaded with 4227. I think Lead Head bullets had another offering in 180 cast, that was an accurate bullet.
The XTPs will work fine on Deer. Try 17.5-18.5grs of the IMR 4227
Sixshot should be able to give you some good loads also.

CT, what velocity do you think the Swift 180s need to expand well?
