MADE A QUICK TRIP TO THE HIGHPOINT YESTERDAY (6/8/19) AND BACK TODAY (6/9/19) TO REPLACE A/C IN THE HUNTERS' CABIN. TOOK A LOANER RUGER RANCH RIFLE IN 223 ALONG IN CASE THE 2 A/C GUYS WANTED TO SHOOT A HOG (NEITHER OF THEM ARE GUN GUYS OR HUNTERS). ME, I WAS FULLY ARMED AND READY WITH A DEDICATED 45 COLT, 5 SHOT 5 1/2 INCH, BLUE RUGER "NIMROD" BY BRAD SHERMAN (MY BELT GUN), LOADED WITH 250gr RNFP OTBC RELOADS, MY EDC 2 INCH RUGER LCR IN 327 WITH FEDERAL 85gr HYDRA SHOK JHP's, A 2 INCH COLT DETECTIVE SPECIAL IN 32 S&W LONG (A "PORCH" GUN), WITH SOME FIOCCHI WADCUTTERS, AND, NEW TO THE "TEAM", A T/C CONTENDER WITH A 10 INCH, OCTAGON BARREL IN 221 FIREBALL, AND SOME HSM AMMO LOADED WITH A 50gr SIERRA BLITZKING BULLET, TOPPED OFF WITH A 2.5x7 T/C SCOPE.

STILL DAYLIGHT, BUT AROUND 8:00 P.M., 10 OR MORE PIGS CAME OUT TO THE CAMP FEEDER (ABOUT 135 YARDS FROM THE FRONT PORCH OF MY WIFE's CABIN), SO I OFFERED THER 2 A/C GUYS THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE THE RUGER RANCH RIFLE, BUT I DID NOT PUSH TOO HARD AS I HAD A FIREBALL AT HAND. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, WELL MAYBE A COUPLE OF MINUTES, I GRAB THE FIREBALL AND GET SET UP ON A SHOOTING BENCH IN THE FRONT YARD, AFTER ALL THERE WAS WORK TO DO, i.e. SHOOT PIGS AND RUN THE SURVIVORS OFF THE CORN AT THE CAMP FEEDER. I HAD ONLY SHOT THE FIREBALL TWICE TO SIGHT IN AND WAS DEAD ON AT 25 YARDS AND MAYBE A LITTLE HIGH AT 50 OR SO YARDS, SO I FIGURED I SHUD HOLD AT THE TOP OF THE PIG, PLUS THERE WAS A NICE BREEZE FROM RIGHT TO LEFT SO I ADJUSTED FOR THAT, AND SHOT THIS NICE SOW IN THE NECK AND DOWM SHE WENT. IN HOT WEATHER YOU EITHER RECOVER AND PROCESS ASAP, OR YOU JUST FORGET THEM, THIS NIGHT IT WAS JUST A CULLING OPERATION AND NOT ALSO A MEAT RECOVERY.

A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER I WENT TO CHECK AND SEE WHAT IT WAS, IT WAS A NICE SOW, MAYBE 50-60 lbs, WUD HAVE MADE EXCELLENT TABLE FARE. SHE WAS STILL ALIVE, NO PROBLEM AS MY EDC 327 WAS CLOSE BY AND I PUT A FINISHER IN HER WITH THE 85gr HYDRA SHOK. BEFORE I LEFT THE HIGHPOINT THIS MORNING I TIED HER TO MY TRAILER HITCH AND DRUG HER OFF A WAYS.

FOR THE YEAR THIS MAKES 11 HOGS TAKEN AT THE HIGHPOINT (NOT JUST BY ME, BUT ALL HOGS TAKEN), BUT THERE ARE MANY MORE HOGS THAT NEED TO BE CULLED. BACK BEFORE THE LAST BIG DROUGHT WE TOOK 40 A YEAR FOR 2 YEARS IN A ROW (I ALSO HAD MORE "BOOTS ON THE GROUND" BACK THEN). THIS YEAR I AM THINKING WE MAY HIT 25. I MAY HAVE SOME HOG HELP IN LATE JULY AS THREE MARINE GUNNY SERGEANTS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE COMING TO CULL PIGS AND AOUDAD EWES.

When I saw high point hogs, I was thinking the high point guns and point blank distances.

OH YEAH!!! I HAVE AN XP-100 221 FIREBALL THAT I ACQUIRED MAYBE 40 YEARS AGO, SHOT IT SOME BUT UNAVAILABILITY OF DECENT PISTOL OPTICS, AND OTHER PURSUITS, KEPT ME FROM USING IT MUCH. IN THE MID '80's I HAD IT REBARRELED WITH A 17 INCH 17 REM BARREL, WHICH I HAVE NOT SHOT IN MAYBE MORE THAN 30 YEARS. HAD BEEN THINKING OF PUTTING THE 221 BARREL BACK ON THE XP BUT NO NEED TO NOW. I THOUGHT I HAD BRASS AND DIES BUT I CAN'T FIND THEM, SO I ORDERED A FEW BOXES OF THE HSM FACTORY AMMO, NICE AMMO.

I, too, thought this was a reference to Hi-Point and was about to be seriously impressed.

I'm still seriously impressed.
