I know some of you were curious about the 450 I used to kill that buck. The rifle started life as a 1895M guide gun. It was purchased to test ammunition for commercial production. Many of the loads that were published in loading manuals were developed in this gun and pressure tested by Hodgdon. As part of the testing I had the "hard job" of killing a water buffalo with it. As far as anyone could find out it was the first water buff killed with a 450. After all of that was done I got a call from a friend that guides hunts in Alaska. He had a WWG .457 and the day before had to go into an alder thicket after a wounded brown bear. WWG refused to install an extended magazine tube on his gun. When the grizzly fight was over he had one shot left in his gun. We talked about it and planned out the two rifles that night. His is a cut down XLR 45-70. I had already measured one of mine and figured out that a 20" barrel with a full length magazine would allow 9 total shots. He was going to have the XLR cut back to 20" and a full length tube installed. I was going to get Jim Brockman to make a full length tube for my 450 (a cowboy 45-70 tube cut back wont work on a 450) and convert mine to pistol grip which I find easier to control. At the time the MXLR stocks wern't available for sale so I had to have some help from a friend that worked at Marlin. I was able to get my hands on the stocks.

We started construction on the guns and once completed we posted pics of the two guns and members of the forum went wild. Several Marlin employees were members on the forum and our pics made their way to product development. About 3 months after that the marketing manager from Marlin posted a pic of a prototype gun and wanted to know how much interest there was in such a rifle. The response was great and shortly thereafter the SBL was introduced followed by the GBL. They never tried to deny that they copied our guns because everyone on the forum had already seen our pics. It was all good. I later added the Brockman sights with the quick detach Talley rings which allows for 3 separate load sight ins. The 450 has killed numerous bears and even sopped a bear charge saving a hunters life. Here are a few pics.
This is the pic I posted on Marlinowners.
The rifle after creokote

The sighting options.Takes 20 seconds to go from a ghost ring to a 350 yard scoped shot or countless other options.

Its sister Don's rifle

This is the sister rifle with a brown bear that he had to stop after it was hit with a 300 Weatherby.

I like to think I'm a collector but only have three. Henry 45-70. Winchester pre '64 30-30 (killed first deer with at 15), and a really old Winchester 32-20.

I've always wanted a lever gun, but never did purchase one. Reflex, yours is a work of art.

It's a disease. I don't even know how many I have without taking a count.
