Do you got plenty of brass? I have some brass that I don't think I'll ever use since I turned mine into a 260.

I think I'm good on brass, unless you want to make a donation, I'll pay shipping.

I am still waiting to hear if my friend has the original linkage and trigger, but in the meantime I tried to take the action out of the reargrip wood stock to look at the recoil lug. I removed the forward screw underneath the stock and then completly loosened the small screw on top that goes down into the action. I believe those are the only 2 screws holding the stock to the action, but could not budge the barrel/action assembly out of the stock. I see that there is some glue or bedding material visible. I thought I read about people actually gluing in the action. Hope that's not the case. Any ideas if this is bedding material oozing out of the stock or glue?

Thanks, JIM

Well it does look like someone did some work on it. If the barrel is floated pretty goo then you can squeez the barrel and the front of the for end together and sometimes they will break free, but that may not work in your case. You might just have to become creative and pull a little harder. A rubber mallet might be in order also to kinda jar it loose. That sure looks like a good glue job though. Good luck.

If all screws are removed and all else fails, put the the entire gun in the freezer at least overnight. Then rap it swift and sharp with a wooden or rubber mallet. If you are trying to salvage the stock you may have to put a piece of thick cow hide between the mallet and stock. If that does not work refreeze. Then if you have a heat gun, heat the stock only from the bottom side, especially the recoil lug area . It needs to be heated as fast as possible, but do not heat the metal, keep that as cold as possible. Then rap it again with mallet.

P.S. Not responsible for a broken stock, yes some guys have glued the action into the stock, these can be a bearcat.
Good Luck.

Benchrest guys do glue actions to the stock. I have read that the way to remove a glued in action is with an iron. Place the stock in a padded vise. Put a hot iron on top of the action. As the action heats up it makes the epoxy soft. Once the action is out you will have to take all of the bedding out and redo it. I haven't done it myself. Good luck!

Excellent ideas - thanks! I'll try those. I have a javelina hunt coming up in late Feb and its shooting good now so I'm going to see if I can take a javelina with it before I put it in the freezer (the gun can rest on the javelina meat in there).

Thanks for the help!

JIM

Make sure the trigger guard scerws are removed also, They MIGHT be action screws.

If everything else fails, freezing usually breaks it free.
