Well I shot my first IHMSA shoot yesterday. I scored 25x40 Those Turkeys and Rams at 150 yds and 200yds are very humbling for a guy that has never shot over 100 yds with a handgun before. They said I did really good for my first time, but I was disappointed in my shooting. I hit a few of the Turkeys and Rams but not many. I rushed my shots several time due to running out of the time limit as well as not getting my last round off. It was alot of fun and I can't wait tell next months shoot. rupe

You are fortunate to have a place to shoot, there is nothing within a hundred miles of here. I would love to try my hand at sillywets, but would have to move to do so. I say you did well.

When I was shooting I would do in the 28-32 range (average) with open sights. Never got real good--sure was lots of fun

I built a 100yd reduced set of targets I shoot them with my 22LR and the 38spl

Lots of fun too and you do not need near the room

Next time you go pace yourself with four shots per string. Peace of cake and the rest will come along naturally.

That is OK. I am interested in what you shoot. I shot single shots and revolvers, International class. I shot 79 out of 80 with a Ruger SBH, .44. Many, many 40's over the years, Creedmore, open sights.
I can help with the revolver so if that is what you shoot, please tell me the loads. I can help with powder choices for some single shots too.
I understand the rush but when you get used to it, there is more then enough time. My friend would get so shook up, he tried to chamber a Chapstick!
Once at a shoot, few people were left so I set my own .22 targets for fun. I would shoot all ten before the other guys shot five. Two minutes is plenty of time.

THANKS EVERYONE for your comments and encourgement. I'M shooting my striker in .308 win. 2-8 var. Scope. Shooting unlimited any site and using the creedmore postion. 165 hornady BTSP over 43 gr. VARGET. It's real accurate, but my elbow is really bruised up from 45 rds Ilm going to try some 125 gr Nosler B TIPs and 155 Nosler Comp. Over varget and see if I can get some of tthe kick out of it. I eanted to shoot another round with my .44 SBH Hunter, but I had had enough punishment forr the day and figured it would have been a waste of ammo. I'll take any help that anyone can give me. THANKS AGAIN,

Rupe

if i were using large caliber guns....i think i'd look into trail boss powder for reduced power loads.

Most definately...at least for the 50 and 100yd targets. Many guys I shot with would use a different load for different ranges.

Varget is just a super powder. You need an elbow pad, no way out of that. Get rid of pain and rug rash and you will make it work.
Don't search for less recoil if you give up accuracy, control the recoil.
Even a .44 will tear up your elbow. Please protect it.
I want to see you do better and you can when pain goes away.
