The following pictures are of a policeman (town unknown) who tried to take down a bad guy with a knife without using his gun.
The officer was described as an expert in hand to hand combat..
Always bring a gun to a knife fight...

I'd hate to see what he would've looked like if he weren't an expert...

i think this guy must have watched too many episodes of Walker Texas Ranger, of course if he were as good as Norris it might have worked out differently.

James, do you have a link to this story? I have seen the same pics in training and was under the impression this happened in a prison. In prison we don't have the luxury of bringing guns to knife fights.

For what its worth, the wounds appear (at least to me) to be made with an improvised/homemade blade since they are all slashes and no stab wounds. Attacks with weapons like this are fairly common in prisons.

Where can I find these pics? I was telling some friends about this and was going to show them.

It's hard to tell because every scenario like this one is different, but gosh I wonder what the guy must have been thinking. I have been through law enforcement training, and if you see a knife, the gun is the first thing coming out...

When I was in the academy, our training was clear and definate. If a man pulled a knife on you, shoot him. Pull your weapon and shoot him just as quick as if he had pulled a gun. Knives are just as deadly as firearms, and at close range they are often much faster.
