I am new to handgun hunting and this site. I have been a lifetime hunter, just with rifles and bows. I recently purchased a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter and I am looking for a scope. I noticed most people recommend the Bushnell or Leupold.

My question is; I would like to be able to remove the scope and hunt with iron sites and I noticed with the mounts provided with the gun that a normal scope contacts the front site. Do I need to get different Ruger mounts for the Bushnell 3200 elites or the other Leupold Handgun scopes.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome aboard Oldpaint. Those guns come with medium height ring sets and they are too low for many scopes and the sights. If they are in new condition you can send them to Ruger and they will swap with high or x-high of your choice. Just give them a call and explain your situ.

I have two Hunters and neither of my fixed power Weaver scopes touch the front sight. What scope are you trying to mount?

Welcome and what s4s4u said, that way you can put any handgun scope you want on it without a problem.

I have not tried to mount a scope. I just have a few extra rifle scopes laying around and I noticed that they could not be mounted without removing the front sight. I knew the handgun scopes had a smaller diameter.

you shouldn't have any problems with most of the handgun scopes. Don't overlook Weaver or Nikon either, I've owned both and never had any problems. I primarily use the Bushnells and Leupolds but that is just the way it's worked out for me.

I think the Weaver 2X is a perfect fit for the SBH Hunters. It's 28mm, fits between the sights, it's light and it gives a great image. And the price is right as well. Weaver advertises it to be able to handle 1000's of rounds of 454 Casull. I've probably got 5-700 hundred 355gr full house 45 Colt loads with it and as many plinker loads and it's still perfect. Accurate as well. Here's a couple pics. Just enough room for a Butler creek cover. This one is actually for the objective end of a scope. It fits perfect and when I drop the gun in the Wyoming Combo Holster it fits. I could slide the scope forward a skosh but it works so I'm not gonna fix it.

should I get the high or extra high? I know the Leupold 2-8 has a larger diameter.
