Bushnell 2x6 finally turned loose. It took nearly 500 rounds of 475L loads to do it but it just couldn't hang, so let the told you so's roll.

Was it the standard 2X6 or the 3200 Elite?

Even if we didn't "tell him so" ;-)

It doesn't matter what scope you have,if you bang them around long enough, sooner or later one will fail. One failure just means that particular scope couldn't take it,the next one may last for 10,000 rds.I'm sure most of the the scope manufacturers
have had similar failures.Feed back from shooters lets them know what works and what dosen't. Bob Mileck used to say he had a bushel basket full of scopes that haden't stood up to recoil. That was when the .44 was king, look how far scopes have come since then.

I've talked about scope failure to several folks in the industry and this is roughly what their feeling is... a scope will fail, if it's going to, either within the first few rounds or it will fail somewhere around 500 rounds. It might be 400 or 600 but somewhere in that ballpark. If they go over that and continue to work then you're pretty safe. With that said there are some manufacturers who seem to have more failures than others. The elite 3200 2x6 is pretty tough as are the Leupolds. Knock on wood, I've never had a handgun scope fail. I bought one that had failed (knowingly) but I have no idea what caused the failure. I did have a rifle scope fail once though.

Gary, Your exactly right. Had a brand new, out of the box, 2-6x Elite on my FA 454 and shot 5 rounds of Cor-Bon 360gr Penetrator and realized something was wrong. The tube seperated from the turrent housing. I sent it back and promised them I would never use that round with their scope if they replaced the broken one.

had a burris 2-7x without posi-lock on my 45 colt blackhawk hunter, and with about 30 rounds of cowboy loads, the reticle turned. sent it in and has been good (knock on wood) for roughly 800-1000 heavy loads.
