Kral, The reload info I listed was taken from Loaddata.com and it does not say what diameter the cast bullets were sized to. If I can find Handloader issue 231 in my stuff, it may list the size in the original article. Will try to find.....

That sounds like what I'm looking for....pleasant to shoot for anyone and enough stomp for deer.

8-9 grs of 231,11-13 grs hs-6 over wlp primers will push 255-300gr cast bullets between 850-1100fps.A good cast bullet at 900 will shoot end to end of a white-tail out of my 4 5/8s bl 45colt ruger. Never tried unique but lots of fold like it.Just starting to play with 2400 and 17-19grs works nicely with wlp primers.

I loaded three different bullets over 10gr Unique....Sierra 240gr JHC, Penn 255gr SWC and Penn 270gr Thunderhead. The Sierras scattered, the 255's and 270's grouped about 2" at 25yds shooting offhand. I made a small sight adjustment and ran a cylinder full of the 270's through it into my berm at 40yds. Using small dirt spots against the snow as aiming point, each shot landed close enough that it obliterated the small spot into a large crater.

I'm going to run a few over the Oehler just to verify the velocity mainly to calculate the energy.

Other than that, call it done!

If you have some 2400 try 16-17 gr on the 255 cast bullet--it may surpise you

At least now I know why I have your 405gr bullets although I'm not sure what I'm going to do with them. I found a load for them in my 454 that is supposed to push them to 1400fps and I'm betting my recoil is going to increase if I use it. I was thinking of using them in my Rossi 92, I have a Marble tang sight on it and it will clover leaf all day long at 50yds with 300gr XTP's going 1750 but the cast would make it more old school and definitely make it a hammer. Anyone have any data for the 405 Beartooth in the 45 Colt?
