Got a new SBHH from my wife for early Christmas. After about 80 or 90 factory load Hornaday 240gr XTP,discovered the barrle was loose. Almost .0020 of movement up and down. My gun shop could not beleave it. We sent it back to Ruger ,waiting on answer. Has any one had this happen? thanks!

I have seen barrels that were under and over rotated but never a loose one. There is no excuse for that, I am curious as to their response.

had a loose barrel on a Colt 1877 Thunderer, however, the gun was over 100 years old.

No but I've seen ejector rod housings with the slot cut in a twist... couldn't push the rod but about half way down before it would bind up. So it goes with assembly line production at times. I'm sure Ruger will make it right.

Never heard of it or seen it. Ruger is the best in terms of making things right in my experience. I wouldnt worry to much. I hate the inconvenience it has caused you but as was said that is the way of assembly line production. Hope it all works out and let us know what they say.

pretty rare on barrels like that, I had a smith 500 that had the barrel nut come loose 3 times but that's a totally different system but as was said earlier there is definitely no excuse for that.

Are you sure the barrel is physically loose and not ready to fracture?

I would think that if the barrel were loose then you could turn it a bit right and left or see a gap between the barrel and the frame.

There were a number of Redhawks that had an issue with the barrel physically shearing off at the threads when shot. Turns out someone used the wrong lubricant when threading the stainless barrels on. Wonder if this might be a similar issue.

I would love to see how this one turns out. I had a srh that shot so far left that the sights or scope wouldn't adjust far enough to the right. Ruger thought that they fixed it and then I got rid of it when it went bad again.
