Oh, I certainly killed them. What we should realize is that not all jacketed bullets are created equal and all hard cast bullets are not created equal. I have seen bullets that were sold as "LBT like" that failed miserably to penetrate. because of tumbling. Not one but 7.
Also the hardness of the cast bullet ill have a bearing on penetration as well.

The old Freedom Arms 300 grain jacketed bullet was an excellent bullet in both the wound channel and penetration

Again the term "proper hard cast" must be understood

jwp475, In your post above you say that when you shot your buff you did not recover any of your hard cast bullets bullets because THEY ALL EXITED....It seems like your saying that cast bullets are better then the jacketed partitions that I used because you quoted my pictures and performance. First let me say that I did not chase the buff or boar and ask them to kindly return my bullets. They were recoverd from two DEAD animals. If I felt I needed extreme penetration I WOULD have used a cast or similar bullet...WyoJoe`s original question was partition performance on hogs and tough game which I answered from past experience. As a well known NYC sportscaster say`s "lets go to the video tape", so go to the bragging board and locate my video showing me take the FRONT head shot on my buff and watch the results. And if I had used a cast bullet for that shot and did not recover it, that would mean that I did not look hard enough.
As for the boar, again, if I had felt the need for extreme penetration I would have used a cast bullet but it turned out that the jacketed partition did just fine as the boar ran 10yds and dropped as witnessed by fellow member Franchise.....

Well put Mr. James. There is not a single user on this forum that has as many pictures of experience posted on the bragging board as you!

I think he is saying deads dead, and so is this topic...

This is coming from a shooter that not only shoots jacketed AND cast bullets, but casts bullets as well...

Extreme penetration as you call it is your friend a longer wound channel adds to the wound channel volume. In the game fields in pursuit of free ranging game they will often run even when the bullets are placed in the kill zone, exits aid in blood trails. Also more penetration allows for more severe angles where a bullets can be placed and still reach the vitals.

I didn't say one way or the other as to whom shot the animal that the bullets tumbled, don't draw conclusions on limited information

If you think that jacketed bullet and no exits are the "holy grail" then that is fine by me, but I happen to see it differently after 50+ years of hunting. I was once in your camp, but no more. I want exit as often as possible

There are good and bad bullets of either kind. all of which we have seen so far are on the good side.

tomatoes, tomatoes (you know what I mean lol). I am just pleased we have so many choices!

Bullet technology has come a long ways, and the end result is pretty spectacular performance

Seems like you're saying that any experience differing from yours is irrelevant. Is that what you are saying, James, or are we having a discussion and an exchange of experiences?

jwp475,
the original poster WyoJoe was also wondering about quality brands of cast bullets in addition to experience with the noslers, xpb's and such.

maybe you can help him out with some brands?

were not really looking for an all out cast vs. jacketed battle here.

I don't like where this is going (as usual)

I think James has a valid point and so does jwp475 but enough is enough. It is Christmas Eve Day so forgive me but I am locking this post.
