dont want to start any debates....i would like to hear what you have harvested with a 357magnum. i thinks its a versatile lil catridge and the most fun to shoot. i have taken a 6point buck, coyote, raccoon, and quite a few rabbits( with 38sp.)..all with a gp100 and blackhawk

so lets here your stories and what gun you used:)

None to tell really....carry it a lot but have not had to draw it yet! Kinda of a bummer really....may send it off to Rod for some tweaking.

I would start by saying I am not a 357 fan, but it is the only cartridge I own three guns chambered in so I must not dislike it. I don't use my 357s for hunting that often but a couple of my most memorable hunts have been with one. A few grounhogs, an alligator, and my hardest earned trophy yet- a turkey have fallen to my Taurus Tracker.

Way back used a Winchester 158gr JHP and my Python to take a couple of deer and the 180gr XTP in my FA~s 353 to take some rams and finish a boar. Use to read articles by Dick Metcalf who always wrote that the 357 was good if you put it in the right place. The Win. 158gr JHP listed above was bought after reading his list of decent 357 ammo....

I have taken quite a lot of small game with the 357 and a fair amount of hogs. I used the old Speer 1/2 jacket 160 grain bullet. This bullet had a lead core in the shape of a semi wad cutter with a jacket to the wad cutter shoulder, The bullets killed the hogs well but did not exit often.

I also took an alligator once but with the 45 ACP, not with the 357 so that doesn't apply here

Two whitetail does and a couple of smallish hogs have fallen to my S&W 686 and the 158gr XTP. No problems at archery-esque ranges for me.

And some wabbits...

Got to shoot a coyote with my New Model Blackhawk .357 third round down the barrel. Had my target set at 25 yards and he decided to try and sneak across the trail at 50. First two rounds went under him, third rolled him. Didn't bring him home or take photo's cause he had mange so bad it was sickning, guess i did him a favor. A couple of grouse and lots of tree rats. Will have it along next deer season.
