I am going to get a 14" 7-30 barrel for my Contender.I will use it for deer and targets. What are your choices for bullets and powder? I was told to use 30-30 brass. What is the best?

Mark

I used the Nosler 150 gr Balistic Tip in my .30/06 Encore and I am quite pleased with it. For the Waters I would look at the 140 gr. BT. It will be interesting to see what others say.

There are a lot of good options that will work... IMHO

You cant go wrong with a 120 gr NBT.

I have personally had good luck with a 139 spbt and 32 gr of H335.

I use the 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips and H4895 but there are alot of good powders for this round and actually mine have shot just about every powder I've tried pretty good. You do want to use 30-30 brass unless you want the proper headstamp but it seems like that was more expensive. I just use Remington brass. I've heard of some people using 375 Winchester brass but you want to stay away from that. I read that the brass is heavier and the case volume is smaller when it's sized which increases the pressure.

I use .30-30 brass, 120 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips and Varget powder. It has always resulted in quick one shot kills. My farthest kill has been 150 yards.

Mark, In my "Super 14" 7/30 Waters

I use Federal 7/30 Brass and 120gr Nosler BT. with IMR 3031 on Deer size game and had good luck with one shot kills. I also have tried the 140gr. Barnes TTSX with H4895 and it make the so called little caliber shine on bigger game. Seen it punch all the way thru a couple of Large Hogs and kill an Auodad with 1 shot @ 140yds. Not sayin' it should replace a larger caliber tho.
Just my experience in the field were it counts.
