so as some of you know, i just got back into handgun hunting and successfully got a buck saturday. now im really itching:) for Christmas i am trying to decide on a new shooter. i want a single action again. but im stuck on being practical....do i get a ss single six, that can be used for small game, cheap plinking, and a good fishing sidekick....or do i try something big, like a ruger ss 45 colt, i have never shot a 45colt. i shot a 44mag for awhile but i got a lil flinchy from shooting heavy lead. what are yalls opinions?

If you don't already have a .22 to fit the small game/kit gun bill, then I would go with the single six. If there already is a horse in that stall then go with the big boomer.

As for the caliber, .44 or .45, flip a coin, no bad choices there.
If you reload both calibers can be loaded down to real powder puff loads or loaded up to "make me flinch" levels.

i dont own a .22 handgun. so i am leaning towards that. i think i wont a 4 5/8" barrel length. seems about ideal for carrying.

A 22 is never a bad thing, trigger time is trigger time and 22's are still cheaper than 44's. Can you load your own ammo, or do you wish to learn how to do so?

Get a .22. I suggest a Ruger Single Six or Mk. II or III Target.

All I can do is reiterate what has already been said...

The 44 & 45 are close, the slight edge going to the 45 with good handloads. But I dont think your game will ever be able to tell the difference if you do your part.

I would lean towards a 22. Having two MKII competition 22's I think that they are a huge asset.

The 3ed handgun I bought was a S&W mod 34 and fired so many rounds that I finally had it hard chromed. Did alot to help with the trigger squeeze which I think is the most important part of shooting a handgun accuretly. I still have a hard time with the squeeze after I fired the first round and have to shoot a 2nd or 3ed round at game....
