What is a good factory round for a Savage Striker in .308? I'm thinking of trying Silouette shooting and I can't work up any loads right now. NO room in our little cabin to serr up my stuff. Also what is a good bullit for silouette? ANd any other answers to a new silouette shooters question that he doesn't know what to ask??? I've been shooting handguns for 31+ years but never shot comp. Thanks, Rupe

Just about any factory round will be capable in the accuracy and ballistics department. Those targets are not exactly small or very far away. I'd buy the cheapest and see how it shoots since you'll be running through at least 40 rounds every match you attend.

But I'm not sure that full power loads for something like the .308W would be permitted...I would think that they may damage the targets but I really don't know. That may be something someone else can answer.

Rupe buddy, as many rounds as you would be going threw it might be worth investing in a Lee hand press. It would more than pay for itself, and it dosent take up as much room!

Have you considered casting? It does take up a little room, but you have to do it outside anyway... or the other option, buying cast bullets. Buying from someone like "Moyers cast bullets" might help cut down on price. Buddy I am just talking out loud...

PMC will work for you but if the bug bites you I'd seriously consider reloading unless you have deep pockets.

If you decide to reload then IMR4064 and Sierra Match Kings will become your friends.

The only kind of centerfire silhouettes I have shot started at 100 and you could shoot full power loads. Not sure I would want to send 40 rounds of full power 308 down range at one time. Most guys load just heavy enough to reliably knock over the target. I have the lee press. It's not my favorite but I have loaded accurate ammo with it from the recliner. That's how I usually resize my handgun brass. When I first started reloading it was all I had and everything needed to load one caliber including the press and components fit into one shoebox. If you don't start reloading save your brass so you will have plenty in case you ever do.

the only place i've shot(twice) restricted muzzle velocity to around 2500fps to prevent target damage.
