Instead of highjacking WAC's thread, I started a new one....

This is my new to me, FA 97 with 5.5" barrel in 45 Colt...

As soon as I was notified of the winning bid on GB, I ordered a JPoint sight, FA mount and FA holster to accomodate the new iron. After installing the sight, I was anxious to burn some powder. I had ordered some 250WFNGC Montana Bullet Works to try in the 97. I'm looking for some moderate loads for whitetail. I consulted 500WE for his expierence with the FA 97, and he gave me his pet load. I immediatly went to the shop to load some of his recommended loads, but I was out of the recommended bullet. After looking, I only had 260 & 300 NP's; so, I checked with nosler for minimun velocities for the 260 in 45 colt. The load was a little hotter than I was wanting to shoot in the 97, but i had to burn some power. Being I would hunt with this bullet until my others came in, I went with noslers minium load. After rolling 50 round, I found time between rain showers to fire 5 test rounds.....

The first shot was, luckly, on paper at 25 yards(I was worried about having to use the provided shim) striking high and a little left. I quickly done an adjustment (a little tricky, no click adjustment or indicator marks). Once adjsutment was made, I fired the remaining 4 rounds; and WOW! this thing is accurate! As you can see, the target looks like one of FA's test targets. All in all, I'm like'n the Jpoint and love'n the FA 97. When time permits, I'll add more to the review....

Looks like a winning combo! I put the Burris 'Fastfire' on my 7.5" Ruger 'Bisley' .45 Colt and was impressed with how well it works.

Good shootin'. I like the way it mounts on that gun, real clean.

Great shooting and that knife looks pretty sweet too. Who made that one?

Nice Gun! Great shooting! Thanks for the update on the 97/JPoint combo. After seeing pics of yours I will be ordering the JPoint after Christmas. My next of several FA 97s will be that exact gun.

Gary, this is one of a few knives I have from this maker. It's made by David Winston of Starksville, MS.
