I couldn't find a XP-100 action (without mortgaging the house) so decided to have my Savage Striker in 308 converted. It goes in the shop tomorrow. Going with a 15 1/2" Hart stainless benchrest barrel.
I'm going to start with Laupa brass, but after that I'm open to ideas.
I need some hunting loads, ie...bullets, most accurate powder(s) etc.
Thanks ahead of time.

I am using RL-22 and Sierra 140gr MK's in my 6.5-284 xp. I took it on a hog hunt last week, and the SMK's worked great. I know alot of people don't recommend the MK's for hunting, but after seeing the results, I will continue to use them. My xp has a 17" 1-8twist Broughton 5c barrel, and this load chrno'd 2700fps.

tnwill, I could be wrong but, I thought the longest barrel you could legally have was 16". If that's not the case than I might go with a longer barrel.
nmhunter, A local gunsmith is doing mine, he just finished putting a 15 1/2" hart stainless benchrest barrel on my other Savage. It is a 300 WSM, I just had the barrel replaced (it was alreday a 300 WSM).

H-4350 and a 140 AMax or a 140 SST, with Fed match primer should do you good. I will also be trying H-4831 with 140 grain pills this spring.

ss, It is fine for you to have a longer barrel, my 6.5-284 XP is a 17 incher. So is my MOA 6.5-284.

thats what the min. length you can have with a but stock is 16 you can have a pistol barrel as long as you want as long as its regestered as a pistol but you must have a 16 on with a stock at the shortist

Charlie Joines in Sparta, NC built my 6.5-284. He does all of my custom guns. My xp has a #7.7 barrel, which is a heavy varmint contour.

I would love to be able to attend. But I just got back from a Texas hunt, family vacation, and have an Ohio bowhunting trip planned this fall. No way that I can afford another trip this year.
