I few years ago I got a deal on 4 (2ea. 6" & 2ea. 4")model 28 S&W's two were NIB a 4" and 6" the others had been shot the 4" was in good shape and I sold it to a buddy of mine in AL that wanted it bad for a back-up the other 6" (LNIB --But it did not have a target trigger)I sold to a guy at work--well the guy at work wanted someting else I had so now I have the non TT S&W 28 back--I added a Tylers trigger shoe and have sent it to my local smith to have a Leupold Duel dove Base and rings added. I will scope it with a 4X scope when it returns---Now for the main story--I do not plan on deer hunting with this gun -BUT--I do want to load it with a bullet that could do the job--I am thinking I may try a 125gr bullet in this gun (Most of my other 357's I shoot 158's)-- I will be looking for a bit flatter shooting gun and this will most likely go with me to Texas this fall. To end my rant-- In a 6" wheel gun is there an benifit to the 125 or even the 110 or should I just say with the old stand by 158???

For self defense from two legged vermin yes the 125gr hollow points probably are superior. If I was even toying with shooting big game I would run a 173gr Keith or 180gr bullet in the .357. It is only barely a big game cartridge, no matter what it is a boy doing a mans job so at least give the boy a big bat!

I'd go with a 158gr or larger. That's the weight (158) the cartridge was designed around (in swc form) and the one used to take all manner of game in promoting the cartridge (and gun).

H20, The m-28 is a great revolver (that was some deal) that is very strong and is almost exactly the same as my m-27 for which I shoot 158-170 or 180 grain jacketed or 158-173 or 187grain cast
bullets. If you should decide to plant one of these bullets through a whitetail you will most likely be better off with one of the heavier bullets.I`ve never used a 125gr on a deer but all that I`ve read over the years tells me to stick with the heavier bullets. Good huntin....

Taking the gun to Bill in the afternoon to get the scope base added. Natcez has the 4X simmons scope for $72 may put that on there as a starter --upgrade when I find a deal--there is also a $25 rebate so that makes the scope almost $50--It should last through load development on that gun--

I plan to try the 158-170 & 180's--we will see what does best
thanks for the input

Picked the old 28 up today--looks great it will go to the gun smith in the afternoon Tuesday--He has ordered a Leupold base and rings for it--He will mount them then lap the rings--I also have a 10" SBH that he will be putting a base and rings on --we will see what it looks like when it is done--only doing scope base and springs on it--may go with the same 4x Simmons to start on it too--I will load phostos as I go on these seems to be a cool thing for everyone to look at--Photo on up on board

Got the scopes in this week so we should have both the 28 and the SBH dolled up in new glass by next week..

Hope to shoot them this weekend

The new 29DX -8 3/8 gun is still out at the smith may be another week or two on it-- it will get the same 4X simmons --can't beat them at $72--they are great starter scopes--If the gun is a keeper then just upgrade when you can..
