I'm a NYS resident with a NYS pistol permit. I also possess the Florida Non res CWP. I'd like to carry, while driving down on vacation to Florida, if I can be sure of the do's and do nots of all the states in between. My route takes me through NY, PA, (I-81) through 25 minutes of MD, and 40 minutes of WV. through VA, the Carolinas, GA to Florida. I've been trying to desipher the gun laws per state, but if anyone here travels up and down the coast with any regularity, can you clear it up for me. Thanks, Mike73

Call the states and see what their requirements are…

some state reciprocate with others but it's constantly changing, I'm fixing to get my Utah CCW on top of my Oregon and that will make me good for over 30 states but I don't have the paperwork yet showing all of the ones included.

Most of the states look pretty "cut and dry" on my end, with the exception of Maryland and South Carolina. Looks like i'll have to lock it up for Maryland, and I might be able to just "glove box" it the rest of the way down. Thanks, Mike73

through the NRA you can get a book called the "Travelers Guide to Firearms Laws of The Fifty States". I have the 2003 issue but things may have changed but according to it Maryland does not recognize any other CCW's and to carry a handgun it must be securely cased and unloaded outside of the passenger compartment, so either in the trunk or bed of your truck. At the time of this publication SC recognizes CCW's from Arkansas, Tennessee, Utah and Wyoming. In SC you can carry a loaded handgun in your glove box, cosole or trunk but not in the open. Like I said this is from 2003 and there is a new edition available and I would strongly suggest getting a copy and even then contact local authorities to confirm because things change so fast and as they say ignorance is no excuse and I know of a couple people that have gotten themselves into deep sh*t over stuff like this. The book has alot of other good info too and what I gave you is just the bare bones bottom line so I think it's something anyone that owns a gun should have a copy of.

its $23 I think to apply for a PA permit for us NYs. its good for three years. that gets you most of the states from there to here I think. look into that one and the Utah one. that opens up alot out west and we can take the class here in NY

Hello Wapitirod, Thanks for this information.I could keep a book like that right next to the map in the car. Much appreciated, Mike73
