I have got auther in both hands and bad shoulders. I have been fighting it for a couple of years now. So the 308 encore 15" with pac's on it, is a little to much for me. I have been handgun hunting for for more than 30yrs. I have set my limit to around 200yrds over the years and still would like to kill deer and black bear. I do not reload. What cal. do you all recommend for old hands......

Keep the barrrel but add a partition style brake. For about $85 installed there is a fella making AWESOME brakes (and the addition of hearing protection to your hunting gear) the problem will be solved!! The brake will turn that .308W into .243W class (or less!!) recoil.

Thanks Dan B. I guess my mind is going with my hands. Never thought of that. I use ear protection anyway. There is a gunsmith close by. I will talk to him. Just incase what is the fella's name or address?

Gene,

My lady, Roberta, has arthritis in her hands. She no longer enjoys shooting if there is any consequential recoil. I had J D (SSK Industries) build her a 6.5 JDJ bbl with a large break on it. It shoots like a 22 LR. No jump, no recoil, unbelievable. I recommend looking into putting a good break designed to reduce recoil on your guns.

The smaller JP Break should work pretty well. I have one on my 264 Magnum Tactical Rifle. Really loud, but no kick. My brother has the larger one on his 30-06 not sure it has enough gas to really work with the big one.

I vote to go to a good brake, but I also have a 6.5JDJ that recoils so very little and kills deer like lightening. My 6.5 Swede kicks very little too, and it too does the job! TC used to install their Hunter style brake for $55 if it a TC barrel. This may have changed; check out their site. I find the 'hunter brakes' work very well.

thanks guys that sounds like some good options. I am going to try to put a brake on first. See how I like it or my hands like... I don't think it will be wasted time or effort if it don't work out. I will look hard at the 6.5.
