As my only mould in 44 for a hunting bullet is an RCBS 240 SWC Gas Check, I did some looking in the Midway catalog and found a fair looking bullet that is heavier. Lee makes a big old bullet #C430-310 RF. This is listed as a 310 grain Gas Check bullet with a wide flat point. Midway only shows it in a 2 cavity.
I did some searching and found that it is made in a 6 cavity mould which is a much better constructed mould than the 2 cavity in my opinion. I did a search on the 6 cavity mould number (90227) and came up with "The Factory Store" who lists the mould for $38 without handles.
Lyman and RCBS both had a comparible bullet listed as 300 grain.

I think I will give the Lee 310 a try.

The RCBS 300 SWC gc bullet is my favorite 44 bullet. It has been incredibly accurate in all of my 44s and puts game down very fast. It is pretty much the only bullet I'm willing to buy a gc for. The 45 version of the bullet is also a tackdriver.

Go to http://www.ranchdog.com -- they have a great mould that is made by Lee and it is supposed to go to 265 grains, but with pure wheel weights, the go almost 280 when I cast them. They work really well out of my Model 29s.

The Lyman in the semi-wadcutter 300 comes out to closer to 330 with wheelweights.

Whitworth the Ranchdog link did not get the desired results for what ever reason.

I looked over both the RCBS and Lyman 300 grain Gas Check moulds. The Lee 310, RCBS 300, and Lyman 300 all look very similar. The Lee looks to have a larger metplate than the others.

I have a Lee 357 Cal 158 gr., a 10mm 170 grain, and a 45 in a 230 round nose. All 3 of these moulds produce very nice bullets. I use them for Defensive pistol matches, plinking, and woods carry.

With past results with Lee Moulds I am willing to give them a try.

Is anyone lubing bullets in the Lubricator/Sizer and then applying Rooster Jacket to the bullets? Double Lubing does not look like a bad plan to me.

Oops, sorry! It is http://www.ranchdogmolds.com -- again, Lee actualy produces the molds for them, but it is their design. Have a look.

Ranchdog hasn't been putting out molds for a little while, but is getting back into it with a few select models over the next couple months. The used ones are worth finding...

I have pretty much settled on the original posters bullet in question as my sole hunting slug. RCBS 44-240-swc Gc Casted out of straight WW's and water dropped. I have taken upwards of 75 hogs with this slug and find it to be surely accurate.

The only deer that I've taken in a good number of eyars also fell to this slug. He ran a total of about 25-30 yards into the thick scrub without and blood trail like the hogs always give me.

I have followed the advise of 44man or rather .430 man on this forum and will test it agian on whitetail this season. I like blood trails that Ray Charles can follow.

AS for hogs, my load is spot on and drops them faster than shot with a rifle it seems.

Edited to add: I use javelina 50/50 as a lube. I am appreciative of the gents on these forums with much more experience and seems I learn something new everytimne I log in.

I the new guy and rarely post-- although i have been a member here for a while- any way --I use nothing but cast even in one of my .358 win -- my point as to revolver bullets is that once
we are getting full penetration extra weight is just that extra weight-- certainly shoot what you want and like-- but normally 250gr+ .44 will shoot through most of the game found in the lower 48 --so I have read--1 boar and a couple dozen deer does not make me an expert--I was hooked on heavier for a while-- even my .50 cal ML -- but now not so much -- deer are rather easy to knock a hole in -- the one boar I took was back in March -- a .41 255gr LWNGC at 1340 from 20 long steps went in at the last rib on the right side and exited the chest he weighed 280 #-- and yes I did shoot through the gristle plate in and out from 40+ long steps + shooting through the fleshy part of the leg as he was above -any .430 250-280 gr and above will certainly sail through a deer-- never mind heavier calibers or heavier bullets-- use a handgun shoot what you like and have fun and be sure to share it with other HGH
