7mm Remington Magnum

Anybody have a favorite load with 150 or 160 grainers and a short 16" barrel? I just had one made up with a Holland brake. I have 200 pcs of brass and bu-cu bullets. I will acually be surprised if this barrle beats my 7-08 by a whole lot, but I had the barrel laying around AND I have enough rifles. I had a 338 Win Mag made in same configuration!!

It is lodaed and ready for the range tomorrow!

Beating the 7-08 by a little?? My 17" 7-08 sent 120's to 2800fps. The XP 7mm-270WSM sends 162gr AM's easily over 2800fps...it is also 17".

I think a 7mm RM would be cool.......possibly a nice Striker set up!! It would have to be close to the WSM.

I like the 140 NBT with 62.5 of V-100 Shoots like a house on fire. 3.325 OAL

Or try the 160 Sierra w 59.0 of the v-100 -- Shot good but not like the 140 3.375 OAL

162SpBt with 66gr of RL22... or that is what my Encore rifle likes...

what action is it? an encore will flex with that magnum case head if ya push it much.

Junebug, I will let you know as I am shooting it tomorrow. Kyode, I have had no trouble with the Encore shooting the 338 winmag or the 375H&H or 416 Rigby. I haven't heard other reports of the Encore flexing.

I do have personal reports of teh 416 Rigby flying out of a shooters hands because he wasn't holding onto it though!

have ya shot heavy/max loads?....like ya would/could in a bolt action?

the break open actions flex with maximum for design or over size case heads. just like a contender would with a high pressure .308 case size head. like....stretching a frame....

i wouldn't say it is "trouble" with normal loads....but you just can't push one like ya might in a bolt gun....n still get good case life/performance etc.

a 16.5" 300 win mag encore i had would do 2600fps with 180's. pretty powerful, yes, n worth it if ya need/want it....but actually only a small margin above smaller .308" bullet pushers.

Kyode, I guess I am pushing my Encore 16" 338-06 because I get an honest 2650fps with Nosler 200gr Balistic tips. DanB shot it and couldn't believe it and the case drop right out of the gun! It is one of my favorite calibers and barrels. I am hoping to best that with teh 338 Win Mag and a 225 but I will not push it. Also, I do know that 280AI can get real near factory 7mm mag velocities. I will know more tomorrow. I am going to work up soem load for maximum pressure and then wring it out for real accuracy at DanB's SWPA shoot. You should try and come up!!

that would be cool wouldn't it! i'd love too. not really in the realm of possibilities right now though. heck....i'd be tickled just to get to do some shootin n fishin etc here!
