i kinnda think i might be able to shoot a rear grip xp from my "offhand" sling position. that would make it one heck of a deer rig for me. like i need another one.

Thanks to all. I'm pretty tickled but I can tell you why (I think) it hasnt been shot much.
The original owner is a major skeet and clays guy. He has more model 12 Wins than any 10 guys could need.
Evidently he's not had many centerfires....or ever worked on adjusting a trigger. Holy crap on a cracker is that a heavy trigger.
Surgery scheduled for today. Been a bit since I worked on a rem trigger but Ive got my link to doing so somewhere here.
Monday has a plan of swinging by a long time friend's. He mentioned when his brother died last fall that he got... "all four of his presses and about 30lbs of powder and other stuff I have no clue what it is"... so he told me to come take a look. I had thought of asking before but with the circumstance I wasnt positive it was acceptable behavior even though he has NO need for such.
Buying factory ammo for a 260 Rem is NOT an option here. Not anywhere within 75 miles and that is a Gander Mountain store that I'd have to call first.
No rush. Trigger first IMHO. More bad habits I don't need. I'll work on it but feel the "NEED" for a Jewell. HA! I made the mistake of shooting a rifle with a Jewell trigger once.....oh my. However, finances dictate that I work with what I have a bit.
With that VXIII on it I BROKE THE BANK!
Thoughts of adding a brake and shooting this summer with a rifle scope. I just gotta get past taking a mint "no longer made" firearm and altering it from factory specs by threading the barrel. Before that becomes an option Ill give the 2.5x8 some time to see how I do.
Once again, I need to make sure all of those helping me here are fully aware of my gratitude. Several of you have helped me with options in PMs, replying here and a couple phone conversations.
I cannot tell you how appreciative I am of all the suggestions and information that you have provided!!

I just purchased a striker in 308 and you will notice some muzzle blast from a 308 base cartridge but is acceptable. You made a good choice on cartridge and gun. If you are looking for data the newest Seirra reloading version #5 has has 243,7mm-08,308 but doesn't have the 260 for a hangun data. I'm sure you call Sierra direct they would be able to help you they are in my home state and i'have been at there place of business in Sedalia and visited and they are good people. There number is 1-800-223-8799. Everyone has there thing and i've always had a love affair with the 30-30,308,30-06 based cartridges. They are easy to shoot, reload, and accurate. Give me back a pm i would like to know how you come out on accuracy, etc.

Here is some good data for the 260 Rem http://data.hodgdon.com/cartridge_load.asp
Select rifle cartridges, then find 260 Rem and you are on your way

All looks good. I studied the IMR/Hodgdon reloading charts (and anything I could find in searches) on a couple rounds before picking a couple I thought I might like. That 7mm BR Xp-100 package looked good but I had to ask you all about the real life hunting range of such. Fortunately, finding this I didnt have to make much of a choice. NO WAITING involved. LOL!
A LOT of guys seem to be shooting Varget, yet the old dependable H4895 runs right in there on the charts. While most seem to take right off with standard rifle loads, I'm guessing leaning towards the slightly faster powders would be preferable.
Seems odd to me that I see absolutely NOTHING on guys shooting the IMR 8028 XBR. While newer than most and almost IMPOSSIBLE to find in any kind of hurry it's listed on Hodgdons "burning rate chart" right next to H4895, which also doesnt agree with "reports" that it's similar to 4350. Speaking of things that make you go "HMMMMM." yish. Make up my mind!
I've chatted with guys shooting the 260 in SPs and there is a definate pattern to bullet choices yet powders seem to be personal preference as it should be so....I'll have a lot of fun dinking with it.
Not new to loading but it HAS been a few years so as always safety will be first and foremost but I'm REALLY looking forward to running several tests this summer.
For now, the "short list" is testing H4895, IMR 8028 XBR, Varget, BlC-2 on 120-125 grain bullets and once getting accurate loads I might play with some NON state of the art long range (for INDIANA! LOL!) bullet performances. I CANNOT get past wondering how the 123 Gr A-max will perform expansion/penetration wise even though not "made for it". While some guys are heralding the 7mm 162 grain A-max bullets for game up to Elk and WAY THE HECK OUT THERE ranges that I wouldn't shoot, I don't see any hunting with the 120 or 123 gr 264 diameter A-max.
While at it I have to compare some Nosler brass and the Rems I have.
HOPING to hit something close to 2600 fps that is accurate but Ill take 2450 if I can shoot button holes with it. Curiousity has me wondering a load of some target type powder (IMR 8028 XBR) with a target type bullet of HIGH BC (123 Gr A-max) fired by some CCI BR#2 so it's on my "just gotta" list to put together a super accurate load then run chronograph and bullet performance exercises.
I've been called lots of things but "normal" and "conventional" isn't on that list. hehe! Just shooting a SP in my area will make me a freak by itself. I'll have no worries about damaging my rep any further than that. The ODDS of finding ANY SP handgun here (three gun shops visited , not a single one seen) was the reason for my total shock of finding one amidst the slew of shotguns at the sporting clays range. Ive not seen 10 HANDGUNS there in a decade. It was purely luck of the draw that I stopped in.
Never fear. If not TOTALLY sure the A-max wont both penetrate and expand decently for me, deer loads will probably be pushing Prohunters, Noslers (Ballistic tips or Partitions) or Barnes TTSX. All subject to change of course depending on what "my gun likes". Since always on the look out for "deals" I may be trying some Speers or others too after looking at the group above.
I doubt the deer would be able to notice the difference or care with about any of them when placed correctly.
Some "short list"...yish!
