Anyone thinking of Spring Turkey Hunting? I am just wondering if anyone has a special Handgun caliber they like. I have a .22 Hornet in a "Super 14" and a .45/.410 in a "Super 14" I have taken Turkeys with my .357 , but its a little rough on the white meat! Any opinion will be appreciated.

If I could I would use my 10" 45/410 with red dot. That tube is deadly to 20 and beyond. I've never shot a vent rib model but I know I would surely pattern my hunting load so I know how fine or coarse of a bead to take. Not a very large shot column with the T/C .410 but plenty deadly.
Here in Va. you can use a pistol or rifle for spring turkey. I just bought a ruger single six hunter 7.5" barrel. I shot a gobbler last year with a 22 mag. Didn't tear any meat up and the turkey didn't go to far either. I have ordered a spring kit and a firesight from williams for it. That is what I am going to hunt with this spring. If the fire sight don't work I am going to put a 4x leo on it. that brings up another question If you line a scope up on the ruger and just take the rings off the gun and leave them attached to the scope. when you put the scope back on is it still lined up?

I have never done it with a Ruger. I have done this with an XP100. I had a Weaver rail on top with Burris Signature Zee Rings. I could take the cross bolts out and slide the scope and rings off the gun, then slide everything back on and replace the cross bolts. I checked zero and only had to "tweak" the adjustment for dead center accuracy at 100 yards. Give it a try and let us know how it works.
