Let's see pics of your "Shootin' Stix." I'm sure you can do better than this pic!

Extra Points for showing the gun, and Double Extra points for showing the Shooter!

Here's a couple of mine, the little tripod set I made up before going to Africa, I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten my Blue Wildebeest without them, the shot was 85 yds in heavy cover.
First up is the Elmer Keith, reclining position that I favor, I've taken a lot of game using it.

I never go anywhere without one of my walking sticks, they come in very handy. They aren't real useful in flat country but in the mountains they are very handy to shoot from. You can order them from Boyds Gunstocks.

In the mountains is where the long sticks really shine, you can use them to help keep your balance, maybe cross a crick, knock a grouse out of a tree & use as a shooting stick. I've told this story before but when I shot this cow elk she was making her way down a steep, snowy ridge line. My buddy was shooting her with the range finder & I was sitting down with the stick across my left thigh, wedged into the deep snow, my left wrist was run through the leather thong & both hands were wrapped around my Ruger OM 45. I don't take long shots with handguns as a rule, thats not why I hunt with sixguns. On the occasion because she was standing in the pure white snow I knew I could hit her, the distance was 168 yds, lasered, I've passed on many shots much closer than this one because I wasn't sure I could make the shot, without the stick I would have let her walk.

I like Gregg's idea of homemade gaitors but I'll stick with mine!

This is my newest addition, it doesn't replace my walking stick, it rides in my pack, sticking out of the top where I can reach back & grab it in a hurry when necessay. Its made by Primos & its called the Trigger Stick, you pull the trigger in front to extend it to the length desired, works great!

Here's my 4 man "mule" team, using 2 walking sticks to drag a large cow elk off the mountain, we are all roped together.

Here's the photo of the short sticks I made for Africa, simple & worked great!

I made thses shooting sticks out of arrows. I glued the threaded insert into both ends. the bottom has field points to hold in the soil. The top is a piece of 3/8" gas line with a scalop cut in the side for the arrows. The rubber is very flexable, it grips the forend, and also allows the dticks to be adjusted in or out for elevation. I think I have $10.00 in the materials. They are supper light and I usually collapse them and slip them in a belt loop to carry them.

Great idea with the arrows! Are they held together only by the gas line?

Yes, I took the 3/8" gas line to the archery shop and got arrows that were a real tight fit. It took a little effort to push the arrows in the line, but it does not move.

I had visions of using another arrow screwed to the bottom to of each for standing height but have not tried it yet.

Not really shooting sticks but close. I made a little portable bench. It works good for getting you above the grass and small brush and is quite steady for the front heavy guns like the Encores and bolt pistols. You can see a carry handle on the far side of the table. The rabbit ear bag and the "sissy" bag are filled with white rice, very light and plyable. I have a cheap carabiner clip on the sissy bag to hook on my belt buckle. I carry the table in my left hand and the gun in my right. The table weighs about half of what the gun weighs. I used a three legged system to hold it up. A bi-pod on the front and an arrow shortened with threaded inserts in each end. The arrow screws to the table and a field point on the bottom. The barrel is 28" off the ground. I can sit indian style behind the table comfortably and snipe anything that gets in the scope. In seconds I can pickup and move, then setup for another shot.

Since this picture I have painted it brown to blend in. I can't take full credit for this idea as GARY had an article a while ago and a picture of one he built alot like this. I took his idea and ran with it. Thanks Gary.
