I am thinking of another barrel for my contender. 6.5 X 30 JDJ for deer/antelope/varmints. I like the idea of a rimmed cartridge especially in the winter when hunting with gloves on,just open the action and the empty falls out then throw in another and let'er buck. Anybody have one or comments good or bad? Are they as easy to load as the 375 JDJ?

Thanx.

I used to own a 6.5 JDJ based on the 225 win case and it was GREAT.
It should do anything you have listed and more.

Personally I would buy the 6.5 instead of the x30. The 225 case is rimmed also althought not as large a rim as the 30-30 case. Just my opinion.

Dont forget about a 6.5x55 Swiss. I handles 120 and 140's real well and lots of factory brass and dies available and little recoil and very effective. I love my 6.5JDJ and my Swiss and my 6.5x284. Gor for one of them!

Of course of the 3 you mention only the 6.5 JDJ is suitable for his Contender.

Coreectimundo! I didnt take to read carefully!! I shoot my 6.5JDJ in one and the Swiss in the other. Other than trigger pull and very slight difference in recoil, I forget which one I have! Too me, the 6.5 on either thw 225 or the 30 win case is awesome. EAB hass tons of brass for teh 30-base case.

You know I don't think the Sweeds would like you giving the Swiss credit for that cartridge.

I've had several of them in rifles and yes they are hard to beat.

I have a 6.5 X 30 JDJ. It is not bad to Form from 30-30 Brass. The case after fire forming looks like an Ackley Improved case design. Minimal case taper means it will grab the chamber walls, instead of back thrusting hard into the breach block of the Contender. If you like the look of a 30-30 AI, you will like the case shape of a 6.5 X 30 JDJ.
30-30 brass will always be easy to come by. Don't count on getting 225 Winchester forever for the 6.5 JDJ.

The load I worked up years ago is 38.0 grains of 748 Winchester Powder, and a 129 Hornady SP bullet. I would work up slowly from well below this load.

True. And Swedes don't make watches either.
