I called in my wife's first bird with a pot call. I made with a box turtle shell, a piece of road slate thinned down, and a striker with a corn cob top. Now I go thru the vest every year removing calls and stuff so its not so heavy.

One of my favorite calls was made by one of the elder statesman of our hunting camp. A slate call made from a snuff can, slate cut from an old chalkboard with a genuine corn cob striker. Not super loud but very sweet and it still works well after 20 years.

The turkey is always sweeter when part of you is in killing it.
