I JUST KNOW THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE SITE TO ASK ABOUT SCOPING OCTAGON CONTENDER BARRELS. I RECENTLY ACQUIRED 2 10 INCH OCTAGON CONTENDER BARRELS, 1 IN 22 JET AND ONE IN 221 FIREBALL, AND AM LOOKING AT A 222 OCTAGON ALSO. ALL FOR EASY AND FUN SHOOTING AT THEM LITTLE THINGS THAT OFTEN NEED ELIMINATION. THE JET HAD 4 MOUNT HOLES BUT THE FIREBALL ONLY HAD 3. THE WEAVER MOUNT (92A I BELIEVE) FITS ON BOTH BARRELS BUT WILL IT HOLD UP? ARE 3 MOUNT HOLES ENUFF FOR THE FIREBALL? ARE THERE ISSUES I NEED TO LOOK FOR, e.g. THE "FULCRUM EFFECT"? ARE THERE BETTER MOUNTS/OPTIONS? I AM NOT IN A TOO BIG OF A HURRY SO DO NOT MIND AN OPTION THAT REQUIRES SOME GUNSMITHING, e.g. MORE HOLES, BIGGER HOLES/STRONGER SCREWS, ACRA GLASS, etc. A BUDDY HAS MOUNTED T'SOB's ON FA REVOLVERS FOR ME WHERE HE ACRA GLASSES THE SCREWS AND THE MOUNT AND THEY WORK FINE.

Rey, for what it's worth, I use the Weaver mounts quite a lot on the Contender small bores with nary a problem, Hornets, Fireball, .256 WinMag , Bee, et al. Most are 4 holers, but one has just 3, the octagon .256 WinMag.

I would not be concerned about only having 3 holes. My Freedom Arms .475 Linebaugh base only uses 3 holes as does my S&W 629. The trick is to not mount a huge heavy scope using a heavy base and steel rings. A weaver type base along with a reasonable scope and as I prefer, Leupold Rifleman Vertical Split Rings should work out well IMHO.

If you are concerned about the three screw mount, have the 6-48 holes redrilled and tapped to 8-40. Much stronger.
