I just was on Gary Reeders forum and there's a post about belted magnum rounds in the encore and how they wreck the frame s. I've never seen anything about this before but Reeder himself says ernie French from T&C said stop chambering them and even goes so far as saying JD stopped too. This is the first I've heard of anything on this. Anybody heard anything about this? Was there a recall or warning that I missed? I've got 2 barrels in belted mag. rounds never had any problems other than the push down on the extractor to get the belt over when loading trick.any information is appreciated.

I have .416 Taylor and .338 Mag JDJ Encores. Never any problems. JD was visiting me a few weeks ago. Never said a word about belted case problems in Encores.
348 I've never had the extractor problems you've had in 22 years of these guns. Might want to give JD a call.

If you push the pressure on belted magnums, you can get yourself in trouble. Long time ago I had a 338 WM and was using the Barnes solid copper bullets=bad combo. This was before they started banding them.
I thought/assumed I could load the Encore to bolt action performance, and I ran into problem after problem. Bad assumption.
Kirby Allen had similar problems as I did, but with a larger belted magnum.
Can you consistently use belted magnums in Encores safely? Yes
Just recognize they do not have the strength of a bolt rig.
The Encore was flexing on each shot and the brass kept getting longer. Even popped open on me one time. It was an education for sure.

There was some discussion about problems with the WSM series of cartridges producing excessive pressures in the Encores when they were first introduced years ago. I remember a discussion on the YO Ranch Hunt between a representative of Virgin Valley Custom Guns and one of the Winchester reps. re: two different chambering specs. for the 300 WSM cartridge. Do not remember the final outcome. Never had a problem with my 300 WSM Striker.

One of my hunters showed up one year on my Wyoming hunt with a .300 Win Mag Encore and the "only problem" he had was breaking scopes.

But I always had a bit of doubt in my mind about those enormous pressures in the Encore...

I had a scope base bow on me, which skinned my scope body.
messed up the dovetails on the barrel, and Bullberry ended up welding them on.
The guy that owns my old barrel, doesn't reload, so the factory ammo once it is used is discarded. Shoots okay and he has killed lots of stuff with it up to moose. I gave him the full details of my journey before I sold it to him.
