Yeah, I know. This is a handgun site and I'm a fanatical handgunner, but when I can't use my handguns I revert to bows. For many years I used my Martin Cougar Ltd.( left handed). Killed more deer than a guy should, but never any decent size. But, I developed a problem.
I got shot by a hunter that thought I was a deer. He shot my left deltoid muscle. Lost about 50% of it and 40% of my blood on the way to the hospital. The exit was 5". He also missed my heart by about 3" on the quartering shot he took with his 7mm Rem. Mag. and 150 gr. Win. Power Point.
So, I could quit bowhunting or become a crossbow hunter. I wasn't too thrilled, being traditional minded. Got my permit and started. Darn crossbow is like a gun. Got a ballistic plex scope on my bow. Range and use the right mark. Dead deer.
I've done well with it taking deer every year, but nothing bigger than a spike.
Been sitting in my bow stand on my farm for 3 weeks and only seen a few does. I was determined to shoot something deceny, but not seeing anything to pull on.
Yesterday at 4 PM I noticed horns about 90 yds. away. Thought it was a 4 point. The closer he got I could see I was wrong. He wasn't a giant, but there are no giants in my part of WV. He came right to the white oak tree 32 yds. from my stand. This was easily the largest buck I've seen with a bow in my hand. When he turned broadside I shot him low in the shoulder blade with a cheap Allen broadhead from WalMart. THese are fantastic. Exits are usually 3'+ with massive bleeding. They've out performed every "name brand" broadhead I've used.
At the shot he reared up like a horse, fell over, got up, and ran. After a massive blood trail he lay dead at 70 yds. over a knoll. It was a struggle for this old geezer to move him and clean him.

Like I said, it's not a handgun kill, but the largest deer I've ever shot with a bow. I guess you could say I'm an equal opportunity Hit Man.

Nothing wrong with using other types of weapons.

I believe the Hitman would be deadly with a slingshot.

Congrats, Doc! I know the feeling. My biggest buck to date was taken with a bow, as well. Even though it made it into the record book, I'd much rather had killed him with a wheelgun.

Thanks, guys.
James, the gun count is over 2400. Never kept as good records of bow kills, but I'm sure it's in excess of 100.
