I officially ended my groundhog season on 9/30. Deer permits ran out 9/15, so I headed to the local airport. Took 9 in 2 weeks. The last one was the coolest. I'd chased this one all year. He lived inside a fenced area that housed the airport's electrical systems. Every time I saw him outside the fence he spooked. The last day I parked on the opposite side of the flood control dike for the airport. I sneaked up to the top of it, just above the rocks in the top of the photo

He was out!, but inside the fence. I knew my Quiet Gun (SSK suppressed Ruger MKIII) was acurrate, but the hole in the fence was only 1 1/2" and a ricochet might do bad things to all the electricity. I waited 20 minutes, but he stayed inside the fence. I'd had enough. I waited until his head was in one of the openings and fired. Dead 'hog!! You can see the small opening I had to shoot through. Oh, the shot was 55 yds. I was pround of that one.
Squirrel season had just came in. I went to my "old" farm that the state had condemned for a 4 lane road to no where. They left me 35 acres which happened to be the best squirrel hunting part of the farm.
I changed loads in my Quiet Gun to CCI 38 gr. segmented HPs. They make a plop when hitting squirrels (worthless on groundhogs) , so I don't need to wonder if I made the shot. In 75 minutes I shot 5 squirrels. Two were offhand at 26 and 31 yds. Three were shot resting off the sides of trees at 50, 55, and 58 yds. On the 50 yd. shot I meant to turn the Bushnell Trophy to 6X, but did 2X instead. The squirrel was ainsy, so I fired figuring I'd miss. Plop"! Rather be lucky than good.

All these plus 239 groundhogs and 51 crop damage deer. A good year so far. Hope it continues.

Good shooting! Can't wait for it to cool off a bit down my way so I can go after some squirrels.
