Loc: Western Colorado
New guy here, Brad from Colorado. I spoke with FA earlier this year about what load they used to test their .454's. I was told they use the Hornady 300 gr. XTP factory load. My load is 31.1 gr H110, just a few tenths of a grain less than that factory load but my gun shoots it a little more accurately than the 31.4 max load my Hodgden manual lists. I have yet to shoot anything big with this load but it's been hell on the marmots this fall. Last year I shot an elk with the 250 gr. Barnes factory load. It worked quite well. I used to shoot a .44 mag with 325 hard cast and they gave tremendous penetration on an almost 600 lb black bear.
260 Nosler Partition and enough 4227 to send it out the bore at 1700 fps. Wouldn't be afraid to use this load on anything in North America.
I would include the 300gr if you have them......
