I have a friend who uses these Hammerhead bullets from Garrett Ammunition and they shoot very well with awesome results on critters. I like the weight and style of the bullet. Is this Garrett's own design or is there a company that make them for Garrett? On their website they only offer loaded ammo. . .were could someone get these bullets to handload? I would like to try these is some of my handguns. Any insight, please let me know. Thank you.

Ashley Emerson makes the bullets and does not sell them separately. They are the toughest cast bullets I have had the pleasure of testing.

That figures! I was impressed with them for the little I have got to shoot them at targets and the several animals I've seen my friend take with them. Is there anything comparable that handloaders can buy?

Penn bullets makes a Thunderhead bullet with a wide meplat. It is a bore rider design. They may have what you need.

Alrighty, I have found a contender to try out for a hardcast load. Its not a Garret/Ashley Emerson magic bullet, but I like the looks, weight and design. Just ordered some from the Montana Bullet Works gang and I'll post some results when I send them out the muzzle. Beartooth had some I would like to try, but I may be pushing up daisies by the time they arrive. Anyone have experience with the Montana Bullet Works folks?

This is a link to the bullet I ordered;

I've used Montana Bullet Works bullets in .45, .44 and 10mm. They are equal, at least, to the quality of Beartooth and they ship almost immediately. Packaging is very professional. You'll be pleased I'm confident.

Montana Bullets Works has a very fine reputation as does Cast Performance. I used some of the latter in Africa & they performed as advertised. This was back when Kelly was still running CP, I'm assuming nothing has changed.

MBW runs a little soft, I've seen them come unglued. Same for Leadhead's and Oregon Trail TrueShot. CPBC, Beartooth, Rimrock and Garrett are tougher bullets.

I have shot several deer with the Garrett Hammerheads in 44 Mag. Penetration is awesome but not much expansion. I have had to track mortally wounded deer as far as 125 yds. Last year I moved up to 454 Casull. When I tried to sight in my iron sighted Ruger SRH Toklat I ran out of adjustment on the rear sight and still could not bring the Hammerheads down into the target. I suppose a scope would work but I like to shoot open sights. I had to go to other loads to be able to hit where I was aiming. Now I'm using Federal 250 grain Barnes loads.
