Ok so today I sighted my 44 in with cheap ammo Then shot my hunting ammo. Billet weights are the same. The hunting ammo is noticeably hotter with more recoil. But the hotter ammo shot way lower. Then it got too dark to shoot. Does this sound normal ? I know heavy bullets shoot higher but these are same. Just velocity and recoil difference.

I think a lot of it has to do with vibrations and harmonics in the gun when fired and when the projectile leaves the barrel. I don't think it is unusual. In my experience, it is more unusual for the POI to be the same for different types of loads.

Slower bullets stay in the barrel longer, causing the higher strikes. It took me a while to wrap my head around this, but everything I've read and studied goes with this.

The hotter ammo is faster and therefore the bullet leaves the muzzle sooner. Even though the recoil is heavier, muzzle rise doesn't have as much time to affect the path of the bullet, relative to the slower ammo.

I ran into the same thing last week when I switched from Winchester 150 gr hp to Hornady 160 gr leverlution factory loads. At fifty yards the faster Hornady loads strike 3 to 4 inches lower. I had to totally Change the way I had my sweet 14 30 30 contender sighted in.
