Hello,
So I have a nice stainless 44 mag super blackhawk and I'm liking the Predator conversion in Mark's book but apparently the price for the conversion alone is $710. Seems like a decent package of work in the price but I'm curious for anyone who's had it done, do you believe you've got $710 worth of improved performance? I like supporting my local 1 man gunsmith shop but if the predator is the bees knees, then it's the bees knees. Appreciate the feedback. Thank you.

Tim

$710 worth of performance? I can't imagine that as the SBH is capable of full performance out of the box. Sure, it'll get accurized and slicked up, but probably not $700 worth. That said, aside from the functional improvements, there is something else. Pride of ownership, that perfect look you want, etc. Around 2007, I sent a 5.5" Redhawk to Dave Clements and he performed his magic and also chopped it to 4". That was before Ruger offered that length. It was $500-600 at the time, and I can't do anything with it now that I couldn't do before it went to him. But, I love it and wouldn't change what I did for a second. It's a rare and beautiful revolver. Something to be cherished. It's hard to quantify or place a price on these things.

i got to play with a Predator a good deal a couple of years ago and thought it was a great handgun. should have made the deal on that one. Imho it was as good a gun as the Freedom Arms premier grade i was playing with a few years before. my only complaint was the trigger was LIGHT. thats more of a trouble with my stiff turnip digger hands than the gun. today there is a Freedom Arms M97 premier grade 44mag for 1500, SBH about 550+700=1250, doller wise its a wash. Is it the Bees Knees? i couldn't do anything with the Freedom Arms or the Predator that i cant do with my old 5.5 sbh again thats because im only ok with a handgun and not good enough to bring out the best of any gun.

You will get a lot of opinions on this from people who know and those that don't but let me say this, I personally have 9 MNP conversions(7 Stalkers & 2 Predators) and would not hesitate to spend the money on another one or more for that matter. Now, does that make me an expert? I would say no, but it does qualify me to offer an opinion based on experience. I hate to encourage you to spend the money as I do not know your economic status and as individuals what one finds appealing others not so much so, but again I personally would spend the money again and never think twice about it. Also, FWIW I am in no way affiliated with MNP.

The Predator was my very first custom. It was built in 1994. I did have a Stalker built in 2000. Over the years since I have acquired some Freedom Arms and other customs. But when I go hunting those 2 usually go. Are they the bees knees? Don't know but they are my favorites.

Thank you for the input. I had a heart to heart with myself and the tuition bill and my wife's voice in my head and decided - eh, maybe later.

I really appreciate the input though.
