it took me a while to warm up to this concept. It seemed a bit overkill and bulky for carrying a handgun. Well, I pondered much and the more I did, the more I liked it. I have an Uncle Mikes Bandolier holster, which works well enough, but it's sized for my 10" barreled Contender. So, I grabbed a Brownells 18"X9" handgun case and added some rings. It works great! The only issue is Brownells must measure on the diagonal, as it's a hair too short with my 14" barrels. Just a bit of the grip's butt keeps the zipper from closing, but that won't be an issue. Thanks for the idea!

I hope posting this is kosher. Primary Arms has a "tactical rifle scabbard" on sale for $14. It looks like it may be a ready made option for this sort of carry. It adjusts from 22" -29" and looks like it would easily carry a big single shot handgun with a 14" or longer barrel. I can't speak for the quality, and it's a bit bulky maybe, but the price is really good and it may work well.

I have an Uncle Mikes shoulder holster for a scoped 14 in Contender with the straps removed that I attach to the side of my pack. The grip faces to the rear. It will also carry my scoped Striker. It free's up my hands for the walk in and out and I still have my belt gun if needed.

I have a sling attached to the rear of my Contender frame. It carries beautifully and is quick to employ. The sling also aids in steadying my shot when tensioned properly.
