I first posted this on Singleactions...A number of years ago, on my first South African hunt, I took my first Cape buff with a Ruger 416 Rigby bolt rifle... My battery included my Freedom 454, but when I got a look at that buff my confidence in whether I could make a good shot and cleanly take the animal was not strong enough to use the handgun... I owed that much to this magnificent creature.... My confidence grew long before my money and it would not be until 2014 that I would return and finally use a handgun to cleanly take a Cape buff.... Now, if I could only make that money grow again...

Nice going James; two great guns, 2 great buffs, both trophies!

JAMES: YOU CAN RAISE MONEY BY SELLING NON-ESSENTIAL ITEMS, SUCH AS BIG BORE RIFLES. AS YOU KNOW THE COST OF AFRICAN HUNTING KEEPS GOING UP, AND UP, AND UP......I AM GLAD I DID THE AFRICAN HUNTING THAT I DID WHEN I DID IT. DON'T KNOW IF I WILL EVER GET TO GO BACK.

You just need to raise a little 💰 so that you can hunt with "your boy" 😉 in March....you can always sell rifles...who needs them anyway 😆

I'm sure a handgun feels pretty small in your hands when facing a cape buffalo. It says a lot about you that you had the respect for the animal to put making a clean kill a priority over using the type of gun you wanted. Congrats on two amazing animals!

Confidence can be elusive and hard to hold on to sometimes.
Especially when facing something big that can and will hurt you back.Experience and success builds confidence.Shooting paper lets you know what the gun and load will do,but there is no substitute for field work on live animals. The gun feels a part of you and you KNOW JUST KNOW you are up to the task at hand.James you put in the time and hours on game it took to gain and hone that confidence,Kudos to you my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
