The only area that the 475 LB has over the 480 is shooting heavy for caliber bullets at high speed....The 480 is a fine cartridge for a hunting handgun....

We did an experiment with the 7 1/2 .480 SRH vs Reeder 5 1/2" .475. That 2" of barrel let the .480 duplicate the 5 1/2 .475 on the chrony.

Picked mine up today. Fired a few rounds in the back yard to celebrate independence ya know.
I like it. Trying to decide on an optic for it.

The 480 is a great cartridge, and from 350-400gr loads will kill most anything most of us hunt.

My first was a 7.5" SRH. Then I picked up my current 9.5" Super RedHawk. My latest revolver purchase was an Alaskan in again 480 Ruger. Mine is not hard to load for. It likes LilGun, AA#9, H110, 296, and 300MP. I have a Custom 375 Grain WFN Bullet Mold by Mountain Mold for it, along with a Lee 325 and 400 grain mold.
I am loading the Alaskan with Speer 275 HP bullets, and Unique and Power Pistol down loaded from my hunting loads. Still very noisy. I also have a Snake Killer Shot Load for it.

I have owned a few 44 magnum Super RedHawks over the years, I like the 480 Ruger much better for hunting. I have my Dillon 550 set up to load for it. What's not to love.

I have had one since January of 2016, I have 4 bullet molds for it, ranging from a375gr HPGC design, to a 390gr WFNPB design, the Lee 400gr, and the RCBS 400 (412gr)SWC. The first two are my preferred bullets, the HP is an NOE mold, the 390 is my design from Mountain Molds. My favorite powder is Longshot or HS6, and I prefer the 900-100 fps velocity range. Mine is waiting on me to decide who I am going to send it to to get some custom touches applied.
