I've seen where some T/C barrel makers - specifically Bullberry and MGM - make rimfire barrels for the Encore. Unlike the Contender, which has a little firing pin selector that allows it to fire rimfire rounds, the Encore doesn't have this ability. From what I've read, Bullberry sells a firing pin kit that allows the use of rimfire barrels in an Encore, and I think MGM creates rimfire barrels with offset bores to solve this issue. Has anyone here tried a rimfire barrel on an Encore? What was your opinion of it?

The reason I'm asking is I've been considering a T/C rimfire setup in either 17 HMR or 17 WSM as a squirrel hunting rig for when they don't want to get close. I'd love to use my 221 Fireball with reduced loads, but we can't use centerfires for squirrel hunting in Tennessee.

My advice would be to go ahead and get a G2. The G2 is much lighter and compact makint it a better squirrel rifle, I can carry mine all day with out noticing it.

I would second the contender frame if you can swing it for 17hmr. I have read that the 17wsm is tough to do because the rim diameter is bigger and the brass thicker so you need more force.

A 10" 17hmr would expect be light portable and deadly. If you get a tight chamber, you can get rifle velocities or better out of pistol barrels.

I have no idea how a rimfire Encore barrel would work. My guess is that if offered by MGM or Bullberry, it would probably work fine.

The wife and I both have Contenders, and both have had a Super 14 barrel in 22 LR since we bought them. We have both put more rounds down range through the rimfire barrels than any other caliber we have. Great practice barrel also.
