I plan on fire lapping my Ruger 45 colt and am looking for a load.
The only handgun powders I have on hand are HS-6 and H-110. The kit should be here today and includes the soft lead bullets to use (Beartooth kit). I am going to guess the bullets will be in the 230-260 gr range. I am ruling out H-110 for use but is the any way I can down load HS-6 (500-700) fps for this? Website data shows this, would it be to fast of a load? Could I drop it down to 8.5gr?

250 GR. CAST LRNFP HS-6 9.0 787 7,800 CUP

I don't want to buy a pound of powder, only to use 80 total grains of it and have sit on my table forever.

I find HS-6 to be pretty forgiving. Depending on whose data, I see start loads a grain or more different. What I load for my daughter's 9 is well below Hodgdon's start but it functions perfectly in her P95. I will be testing it in an LC9 shortly.

I have used 5.5 gr/Titegroup with a 255 gr cast. I don"t have a chrono but, I know the velocity is low and the cases come out pretty much dirty indicating very low pressure.
