I need a longer barrel for my Glock 20 to meet hunting regs. Cant decide if I want a ported barrel or not. Would appreciate hearing your thoughts pro or con. Thank you !

If recoil is not an issue, I wouldn't port.

No ports! No ports! I would think that you should be able to find a longer barrel with or without threads. I would stay away from the ports.

John Linebaugh once told me that there should only be two holes in a handgun barrel, where the bullet goes in and where it goes out.

About the only reason to port a G20 would be if you were using it for bowling pin tournaments. For hunting I would stay away from ports. The ports would help you get back on target quicker but since you'll seldom have an opportunity for a follow up shot I would stay away from ported barrels. About the only thing it will give you is more noise and blast from a gun that started as pleasant to shoot.

If you are planning on sticking with 10mm, then no ports.

I would stick with a non-ported barrel for now. If recoil becomes an issue you can always have a comp threaded and fit onto the longer replacement barrel. If you go with the ported, you have what you have and can't go back without replacing the barrel a second time.

Having used a comped 1911 for a lot of years now, and doing the muzzle break on Contenders years ago, I feel that the ports and comping are only helpful in the Contender to have any hope of seeing your bullet impact on varmint calibers. Would be the same for gun games as noted above to modify the follow-up shot sequence. Your gonna get the noise, blast and if you want to shoot lead, additional cleaning. If you decide you want something out front, with the longer barrel, a comp makes more sense, and as Bubba noted, that would be straight forward to add (or remove).
